Students with ADHD Challenges - Reading Software

Students with ADHD sometimes struggle with reading. I have found some tools that improve their reading comprehension and fluency. Audio books and reading software - Recorded books allow students to listen to text, and they are available in a variety of formats. Special playbook units allow users to search and  bookmark pages and chapters.

Optical character recognition (OCR) allows a student to scan printed material into a computer or handheld unit. Then the scanned text  is read aloud by a speech synthesis/screen reading system. OCR units are available in stand-alone units, as software, and as portable, pocket-sized devices that display words on an easy-to-read screen. Scanning pens are a big help and are perfect for library research and other reading that doesn't involve a computer.

  3. This program seems to have great options for students to control voice styles and speed. I've found the voices on some programs to be automated. I wonder how the voice would be on this particular program?

  5. I've thought about using these for myself. I do not have ADHD, but I am easily distracted as a reader by any sounds around me. If I am reading out loud, I will distract myself and lose my place. I have found that following along while listening to someone else reading, not only keeps me focussed but also helps me keep pace. I am a very slow reader which has been a big challenge for me when trying to keep up with reading assignments.

  6. Reading Buddy Software is advanced, speech recognition reading software that listens, responds, and teaches as your child reads. It’s like having a tutor in your computer
